I do understand that traditions play an important part in the lives of all cultures sharing this planet we call Earth; very few things , however, boils my blood…nay pisses me off than the abuse of another individual in the name of tradition. Invariably those abused are the weakest and most defenseless among us - our children, our poor, illiterate and less fortunate.  Â
I came across this site about “Child Brides“, after reading another story that was a consequence of a young woman, from Somalia, that had developed a serious condition called Fistula, and as a result divorced by her husband and shone. The story was very hard for me to read (I don’t do well with graphic stuff), but paints the struggle and suffering inherent in practices such as child marriages.
It is friggin’ unbelievable to me that in this age of knowlege, how or why we still condone crap like this. I know, and do understand the ironclad defenses that are put up around these societies to keep knowledge at bay. The men and some of the brainwashed women of these societies feed an ample supply of constant ignorance and superstition to perpetuate these outrageous practices only to feed these nasty and devious desires. Â
While not the end all, I sincerely believe that education can play a key role in these practices; because only in naked ignorance can these transgressions prevail. Â

Today’s New York Times devotes two-thirds of its front page above the fold to a horrific picture in color of a malnourished Somali child in a Mogadishu hospital. It caps a detailed and thoughtful report by Jeffrey Gettleman titled “Somalis Waste Away as Insurgents Block Escape from Famine.†The New York Times‘ lead story continued to be the U.S. debt-ceiling crisis and the House vote yesterday to raise the debt ceiling. But the Somalia story visually dominates the paper today. Now that the debt ceiling drama is winding down, I suspect U.S. public attention, rightfully prodded by humanitarian agencies, will focus on the famine.
And, in effect, Al Shabab bears the most responsibility for the famine. The terrorist group continues to block Western aid workers during a drought that has displaced close to two million people, or a quarter of Somalia’s entire population. A few years ago, Shabab dismantled a child vaccination campaign, claiming it was a Western plot; that program could have saved many children who have since succumbed to measles. Gettleman also reports that Shabab is preventing starving people from fleeing the areas that it controls.

DADAAB, Kenya — The people start trudging in at dawn, more than a thousand every day, exhausted, sick and starving, materializing out of the thin desert air to take their places at the gates of the world’s largest refugee camp, here in northern Kenya. They are fleeing one of the worst droughts in Somalia in 60 years and many have walked for weeks through an anarchic landscape replete with bandits and militants but little food.By the time they get here, many can barely stand or talk or swallow. Some mothers have even shown up with the bodies of shriveled babies strapped to their backs.   Click HERE to read the rest of this article  and click HERE to view slide show
My Comments:
Too much hunger…too much poverty only made worse by stupid men fighting mindless war for some dumb cause. Â The disturbing thing about this picture is that this mother…this women without a name to me is reaching put for a bowl, as she hold the listless body of her helpless infant in her arms. Â I can imagine the father of this infant off at some distant place, probably fighting for some god, his faith or some other cause, while his kid suffers. Â Why is it that we burden our women with such heavy labor of body and mind. Â We call ourselves men…but we are nothing but mere fools. Â If the meek shall inherit the earth, I guess very few of us men will have his inheritance.

Paris Hilton’s Chihuahuas – Tinkerbell, Marilyn Monroe, Prince Baby Bear, Harajuki, Dolce, and Prada – have closed on new digs, reports Life & Style magazine. The property in Hollywood is a $325,000, 300-square-foot canine palace complete with a balcony, a backyard, living room furniture, and a chandelier – plus central air.
“It’s a miniature version of my house,†says Hilton. “I designed it with the help of my interior decorator, Faye Resnick. I wanted it to be fun, cute, comfortable and beautiful. My friends just love it and think it’s so adorable and cool.â€
This is some of the vanest crap I have every read. This chick should be struck poor.

The United States Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis issued a report last week suggesting that current political and economic conditions are energizing right-wing extremist groups, that many of these groups follow extremely conservative ideologies and that some may seek to recruit and “radicalize†veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
True, true and true. But, conservatives reacted by throwing a knee-jerk hissy fit. They twisted the report’s meaning to imply that they, and more importantly our war heroes, were being vilified by a partisan document. Their argument seeks to suppress and subjugate two rather unfortunate facts: while only a tiny number of conservatives and veterans are members of hate groups, nearly all hate groups do indeed follow far-right ideology. And they covet members with military experience. Keep reading
Not only do we have to constantly worry about those F$#@@# running about in caves in far off remote lands, but right here at home they are running among us with the same venomous hatred that have killed thousands. These here at home represent nothing but rear guard of the Terrorist abroad. This is no clash of race….it is clash of hate.

During a recent daily read of the WST, I was drawn to topic – “Bush Signs Voting Right Act Extension”; the subhead read – Voting Rights signed into law for another 25 year.
Not being familiar with the Act, I was initially incensed by the fact that in this time and day, we still were messing around with legal aspects of voting for blacks. A quick read alayed my upsettedness some when I realized that the law was aimed at a number of Southern states that were still in the clutches of “Jim Crowism”.
Basically, what happens is periodically voting patterns are analyzed to see if blacks are being discriminated against in the voting arena. Owing to the state of affairs that still exist, I feel comfortable that such measure are still in effect because they are sorely still need.
