Sometimes it’s a question of intelligence or insight, and sometimes it’s sheer good luck. But a lot of the time it’s the result of good habits: things you do on a regular basis that set you aside from the hordes of other, more scattered, students. In the hopes of separating the sheep from the goats, we present the following fourteen habits of top-notch college students. You’ll find that these people:

My Comment – Excellent advice. Will definitely be using this.
Studies show that sons in fatherless households have the highest odds of being incarcerated, have higher levels of behavioral problems and are more likely to be suspended from school.
Thabiti Boone grew up in a neighborhood where fathers didn’t exist, he says. The few who were physically present weren’t there spiritually or emotionally.
“I never saw dads in the park playing with their sons,” Boone recalls.
In his own life, Boone, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., says that his father was present but not there. A star high school basketball player, Boone says his father came to only one of his games.
“I don’t remember my father hugging me. We never heard him say he was proud of us,” Boone says of himself and his brother. “The emotional pain of what I deserve and didn’t get, I have to carry it for the rest of my life.”

My Comments: This is powerful stuff. The best gift a man can give his son is to carry him into manhood. I love my son with all my heart and hug and kiss him every day; never thought for one millisecond not being in his life. Could never understand a man who would – could never understand mine.
Beautiful Brains: Moody. Impulsive. Maddening. Why do teenagers act the way they do? Viewed through the eyes of evolution, their most exasperating traits may be the key to success as adults.
Although you know your teenager takes some chances, it can be a shock to hear about them.
One fine May morning not long ago my oldest son, 17 at the time, phoned to tell me that he had just spent a couple hours at the state police barracks. Apparently he had been driving “a little fast.” What, I asked, was “a little fast”? Turns out this product of my genes and loving care, the boy-man I had swaddled, coddled, cooed at, and then pushed and pulled to the brink of manhood, had been flying down the highway at 113 miles an hour.

My Comments: I am go through this experience right now and it certainly is trying…
Two students. One is black and the other is white. On Tuesday, they both refuse to complete the math worksheet. On Wednesday, neither will stop talking during lessons.
Same behavior. Will they receive the same punishment?

My Comments: This makes things so tough when you are trying your best to raise kids of color in our society…
The Army’s 2016 class of commanders for 31 of its top combat units has one black officer, a trend that the service is seeking to reverse with limited success.
The 2016 list of commanders for Army infantry, artillery and armor combat brigades and battalions shows black officers continue to struggle to gain a foothold in the units that serve as the primary training ground for senior leaders.
Six black officers out of 82 will lead battalions, which are 800- to 1,000-soldier components of brigades, according to the list, which was obtained by USA Today. But only one of the 31 combat brigades getting new commanders, the list shows, will have an African-American colonel in charge.

My Comments: This is not just an Army problem, it is a Navy problems as well; in fact, I would extrapolate that it is a rampant if not carefully guarded secret problem across all services. More to be said on this at another time.
