Is it just us, or are bugsway better at picking up women than men are? In the latest sex news from the world of insects, a study in Royal Society B: Biological Sciences found that all male fruit flies have to do to turn on female flies is rub their wings together and wait for the magic to happen.
The rhythmic buzzing produces a “song†that activates genes related to the female’s sense of smell, which could be involved in the mating process. Researchers speculate that the genes might help the female find the male that’s singing, or to find the right place to lay eggs after mating.
We wondered why it’s so easy for flies—and practically every other species in the animal kingdom—to use mating calls to attract women, and whether or not men can do the same thing by singing their own songs. So we consulted with Helen Fisher, Ph.D., a biological anthropologist at Rutgers University and author of Why We Love, to get the scoop.

As Washington looks to squeeze savings from once-sacrosanct entitlements like Social Security and Medicare, another big social welfare system is growing as rapidly, but with far less scrutiny: the health and pension benefits of military retirees.
Military pensions and health care for active and retired troops now cost the government about $100 billion a year, representing an expanding portion of both the Pentagon budget — about $700 billion a year, including war costs — and the national debt, which together finance the programs.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn said Sunday that his sexual encounter with a New York City hotel chambermaid was “an error†and “a moral failure†he would regret his whole life, but not a criminal act.
In his first interview since his May 14 arrest on charges of attempted rape, Mr. Strauss-Kahn was uncomfortable, intermittently angry and sounded bitter, saying that he had wanted to run for the French presidency and had missed his “appointment with the French people†because of his own actions.
“I wanted to be a candidate. I thought I could be useful. All that is behind me,†he said.
He accused the maid, Nafissatou Diallo, of lying about what happened between them, and accused a Paris novelist, Tristane Banon, of lying about what she said happened between them in 2003, which she has described as an attempted rape — a case still being investigated by the Paris prosecutor.

Bottomline – dude got a bit of  “goodness” from the female-unit, she wanted some or more cash (she probably asked for a $1million – hee..hee)  and he was either being stingy or didn’t want to pay. Dude is a freaking millionaire…he probably did not think the experience (“moral failings”) was worth as much as she wanted. As a man, I am not gonna throw stones dude, but if you play papi…be prepared to pay…sorry bud!  Â

THE Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial was to be dedicated on the National Mall on Sunday — exactly 56 years after the murder of Emmett Till in Mississippi and 48 years after the historic March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. (Because of Hurricane Irene, the ceremony has been postponed.)
These events constitute major milestones in the turbulent history of race and democracy in America, and the undeniable success of the civil rights movement — culminating in the election of Barack Obama in 2008 — warrants our attention and elation. Yet the prophetic words of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel still haunt us: “The whole future of America depends on the impact and influence of Dr. King.â€

The Prez is definitely not being coddled by once supporters. Â Dr. West continues to speak the truth and has not minced words on the shortcoming of the Prez. Â I am not as fervent a supporter of Tavis since his break over two years ago, but I can understand more and more his position on things. Â Â

During George W. Bush’s presidency, many liberal and secular Americans came to regard religious conservatives not merely as their political opponents, but as a kind of existential threat. The religious right, they decided, wasn’t a normal political movement. Rather, it was an essentially illiberal force, bent on gradually replacing our secular republic with what Kevin Phillips’s 2006 best seller dubbed an “American Theocracy.â€
These anxieties dissipated once the Republican majority imploded. In the Obama era, debates over the economy and health care crowded out arguments about sex education and embryo destruction, and liberals found a new set of right-wing extremists to worry about: Tea Party activists, birth certificate obsessives, the Koch brothers.

My Comments:
I read Kevin Phillips’s book – American Theocracy when it came out in 2006. I must say I am not warm to the thoughts of Bachmann and Perry touting their religious credentials. Our democracy prides itself on keeping religion where it should be – a personal thing. I could careless what Perry’s or Bachmann’s religious leanings are.  I hope people of this ilk will never rise to lead this country.Â

Prostitutes in the German city of Bonn must carry a ticket purchased from a new parking meter-like machine while working the streets or face hefty fines from tax authorities in a scheme launched on Monday night.
In Germany, ladies of the night pay income tax — the level of which varies from region to region — but compliance is difficult to enforce with women seeking business on the street.
Germany’s first “sex tax meters,” from which prostitutes can purchase a ticket for 6 euros ($8.72) per night, will ensure the tax system is fairly implemented, a city spokeswoman said.
“Inspectors will monitor compliance — not every evening but frequently,” the spokeswoman told Reuters.
If caught without a valid ticket, offenders will first be reprimanded, then face fines and later even a ban.
About 200 prostitutes work in Bonn. Due to protests from residents, city officials have limited the areas of operation to specific quarters.
But critics say this has made it easier for prostitutes to ply their trade. The city has erected what officials call “consummation areas,” wooden parking garages where customers driving cars can retreat to with prostitutes. ($1 = 0.688 Euros)
